EU delays methane rules by a year and begins refinery talks
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the extra preparation time is meant to avoid adding costs to energy supply amid record fuel prices.
The European Union will give energy exporters an extra year to prepare for the bloc’s methane regulation, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who said the move is aimed at preventing additional costs for energy supply.
In remarks to the European Parliament, von der Leyen framed the delay as part of efforts to manage fuel-price pressures, described as the second crisis in four years.
The announcement also included plans to open refinery talks as the EU navigates the current environment, with OilPrice noting that fuel prices have hit record levels.
