Euro extends drop near 17-month lows as French debt fears linger

The euro was last around $1.1206, down 0.1% on the day, after Banque de France chief warned France could be constrained by high rates.

The euro extended its decline as concerns about French public debt and broader political uncertainty weighed on sentiment in Europe, according to the Guardian Business.

The currency traded near a 17-month low against the dollar, slipping 0.1% to about $1.1206.

In coverage of the same market session, the report said Banque de France chief warned France could be “strangled by interest rates.”

Separately in the business headlines, the Guardian Business noted that FTSE 100 events firm Informa agreed to buy US events organizer Clarion from Blackstone in a deal valued at £2.2 billion, which would add more than 100 events to its portfolio.
