Hong Kong stays top in Fraser Institute economic freedom ranking
The 2026 report places Hong Kong first among 165 jurisdictions, using 2024 data.
Hong Kong retained its position as the world’s freest economy in the latest annual ranking from the Fraser Institute, though its score has fallen in recent years, according to the SCMP Economy.
In the Fraser Institute’s 2026 Economic Freedom of the World report, compiled with data from 2024 and released Tuesday, Switzerland overtook Singapore to take second place and push the city state down to third.
Hong Kong is ranked first among 165 jurisdictions. It lost the top spot for the first time in 2023, then reclaimed it in 2024 and held it through 2025 before topping the 2026 list again.
