Turkmenistan adds Chinese FK-2000 missile-and-gun air defense system
Footage from Turkmenistan’s Sept. 27 Independence Day parade in Ashgabat showed at least 10 FK-2000 vehicles alongside other Chinese-made military equipment.
Turkmenistan has added the FK-2000 missile-and-gun system to its expanding air defense arsenal, underscoring China’s growing role in a Central Asian weapons market that was previously dominated by Russia, according to SCMP Economy.
SCMP Economy reports that at least 10 FK-2000 vehicles, along with other Chinese-made military equipment, were visible in footage from Turkmenistan’s Independence Day parade in Ashgabat on September 27.
The FK-2000 was developed by the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, and it is described as a mobile air defense system that combines missiles with twin 30mm cannons plus on-board radar and electro-optical sensors.
The system is designed to counter aerial threats including aircraft, helicopters, drones, and precision-guided weapons, SCMP Economy said.
