ARC appoints Jackline Muthengi as chief underwriting officer
Muthengi starts on 1 September 2026 and will oversee ARC’s underwriting portfolio, including sovereign parametric coverage for drought, floods, tropical cyclones, and outbreak risks.
Africa’s first development-focused parametric insurer, African Risk Capacity Limited (ARC Ltd.), has appointed Jackline Muthengi as its new Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), effective 1 September 2026.
In the role, Muthengi will drive and be responsible for ARC’s underwriting portfolio, including sovereign parametric insurance covering drought, flood, tropical cyclone, and outbreak and epidemic risks, as well as inclusive insurance.
ARC said her appointment will strengthen leadership as it expands financial protection against climate and disaster risk across Africa, with duties that include underwriting strategy, reinsurance placement, and reporting underwriting performance to the company’s Board.
Muthengi joined ARC in 2021, moving through progressively senior roles that include Product and Pricing Manager, Head of Actuarial, and most recently Head of Underwriting and Innovation, with experience spanning underwriting, reinsurance, pricing, product development, insurance regulation, and risk management.
