US title insurance premiums rise 13% in 2025, AM Best says

AM Best also found direct premiums written by its composite of title insurers rose 18% in the first quarter of 2026 versus the same period of 2025.

AM Best reported continued growth in the US title insurance market, saying premiums increased 13% in 2025, with additional gains recorded in the opening quarter of 2026, according to the companys Bests Market Segment Report.

The report attributed the 2025 rise primarily to stronger mortgage origination volumes, with refinancing activity providing further support.

AM Best said its composite of title insurers recorded an 18% increase in direct premiums written in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, and it pointed to higher loan origination volumes, particularly in the commercial property market, during the second half of last year.

Even with the premium growth, AM Best noted that broader US housing market conditions remain challenging, citing high mortgage rates, affordability concerns, and limited housing supply.
