World Bank warns Asia could lack resources to respond to energy shock

The World Bank links the warning to an energy supply crunch tied to the U.S. and the Israeli war on Iran, highlighting Asia’s vulnerability as it faces diminishing policy room.

Asian countries have taken more aggressive steps than others to respond to an energy supply crunch driven by the U.S. and the Israeli war on Iran, but the World Bank warns those efforts may be running out of steam.

In a new report, the World Bank says the issue of energy import vulnerability is one major headache, even as the report also examines how artificial intelligence could support growth in Asia.

The World Bank’s warning implies that as Asia’s resources tighten, governments may have less ability to keep cushioning the effects of the energy shock.

The report frames the concern as a headwin between the urgency of managing energy costs and the limited financial capacity to sustain a broader response.
