Attacks hit Saudi airports, raising civilian risk concerns for insurers

Saudi aviation authorities said the strikes killed three people and injured dozens at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport and Abha airport.

Insurance Business highlighted how the regional insurance picture is shifting from maritime risk to air travel after attacks hit two Saudi Arabian airports.

According to reporting summarized by Insurance Business, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said strikes killed three people and injured dozens, with one death and eight injuries at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, and two deaths and 28 injuries at Abha airport.

Insurance Business also noted that the aviation authority said the attacks occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday, though it did not specify which day which airport was hit.

The coverage further said Houthis claimed responsibility for the airport strikes, and that the group also targeted Aden’s international airport with ballistic missiles and explosive-laden drones, with material damage reported at both Saudi airports.
