Aviva launches US specialty insurance platform for commercial property
Aviva Specialty is set to begin underwriting commercial property risks in Q4 2026 and is based in New York.
Aviva has formally launched its US specialty insurance business, called Aviva Specialty, as it builds a domestic surplus lines operation after earlier announcing its expansion plans.
The New York-headquartered platform will begin underwriting commercial property risks in the fourth quarter of 2026, using open-market brokers and partnerships with program administrators.
Property is the initial focus, with Aviva planning to add cyber, specialty and financial lines, and specialty casualty as the business develops, and it will write coverage on Aviva Insurance Limited paper.
Aviva said the onshore surplus lines operation is intended to improve access to US domestic specialty risks that typically do not flow into its London market platform.
