Boots pharmacy chain sold in $8.9bn deal to Weston family

The deal values Boots at $8.9bn, with the retailer reporting £7.5bn in sales in its most recent annual results and operating about 1,800 UK stores.

Boots, the UK pharmacy and retail chain, has been sold in an $8.9bn (£6.7bn) deal to Canada's billionaire Weston family, according to BBC Business.

Wittington Investments, the holding company, said it agreed to buy the 177-year-old retailer from US private equity firm Sycamore Partners and the Pessina family.

Boots has about 1,800 stores and 51,000 employees, after closing hundreds of branches in recent years, BBC Business reported.

In its most recent annual results, Boots generated £7.5bn in sales, a 3.2% increase on 2024, the outlet added.
