BYD weighs lithium battery plant in Argentina linked to value chain
Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno said BYD is exploring production of batteries and energy storage systems for Argentina’s domestic market and exports.
BYD is studying whether to manufacture lithium batteries in Argentina, Argentina’s Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno said after meeting Stella Li, the Chinese electric vehicle maker’s executive vice-president, according to SCMP Economy.
Quirno said the discussions centered on investment opportunities in Argentina tied to the lithium value chain, particularly production of batteries and energy storage systems, adding he did not specify how much BYD might spend or where any factory could be located.
The foreign minister linked the talks to Argentinian President Javier Milei’s economic agenda, saying Argentina is positioning itself as a platform for projects aimed at both the domestic market and exports.
Quirno also credited the government’s policies with promoting investment and mining in the country.
