CRESTA publishes 2026 update to insurance risk zones across 140 countries

The release revises 4,863 low-resolution zones and 247,203 high-resolution zones, and adds coverage for Paraguay, Uruguay, Tunisia, and the Philippines.

CRESTA, an independent insurance industry organization that maintains a global standard for risk accumulation zones, has published its 2026 zoning update covering 140 countries, according to Reinsurance News.

The update incorporates changes to 4,863 low-resolution zones and 247,203 high-resolution zones, aiming to retain the overall approach from the previous 2019 update while reflecting shifts in administrative boundaries and units worldwide.

CRESTA said the 2026 release expands the geographical coverage of its zoning system, introducing low- and high-resolution zones for Paraguay, Uruguay, and Tunisia, and making high-resolution zoning available for the Philippines, areas it said were not previously represented.

The zoning system was established by the insurance industry in 1977, and CRESTA said its work supports technical management of natural catastrophe insurance and helps improve consistency of insurance data used internationally.
