Ethereum’s Sepolia test network boosts block gas limit to nearly 200M
The Sepolia network activated the Glamsterdam upgrade on October 6, setting a near-200 million gas limit versus mainnet’s 60 million cap.
Ethereum’s Sepolia test network activated the Glamsterdam upgrade on October 6, then began producing blocks with a gas limit near 200 million.
That cap is more than three times the roughly 60 million gas limit Ethereum’s main network allows, with gas measuring the computing work a block can include.
Gas limits cap block capacity, meaning the higher ceiling does not automatically translate into three times as many transactions, but it can provide extra room if demand rises.
On October 8, a snapshot of 25 consecutive blocks on Etherscan showed gas use at about 24% to 43% of the limit, while Ethereum Foundation researchers previously warned that limits above 40 million can be harder for validators.
