Harvey Nichols to close Birmingham store in January, cutting at least 60 jobs

The retailer’s owner, Frasers Group under Mike Ashley, is also converting the Leeds and Bristol outlets to the Flannels brand.

Harvey Nichols is set to close its Birmingham store in January, a move expected to eliminate at least 60 jobs, according to the Guardian Business. The Leeds and Bristol outlets will be converted to the Flannels brand as part of a wider shake-up under Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group.

The Guardian Business said the department store chain was acquired by the owner of Sports Direct for £43 million on the day it was put into administration in mid August.

The outlet added that the deal saved about 1,000 of the group’s 1,200 jobs across six UK stores, while Harvey Nichols’ Oxo Tower restaurant was sold to a separate buyer, saving 130 jobs.

The article also notes that Harvey Nichols has other locations beyond the UK, including stores in Riyadh, Dubai, Doha, Kuwait, two in Hong Kong, and that a Dublin store was closed by administrators in September.
