Huanggang Port in Shenzhen set to open Oct. 12 with faster clearance
The revamped checkpoint uses a joint inspection model expected to reduce clearance time from about 30 minutes to five minutes, and start with capacity for 100,000 passenger trips per day.
Retail businesses in Shenzhen are preparing for the opening of the revamped Huanggang Port at the Hong Kong, mainland China border, although some operators worry the area still may not be commercially attractive enough to keep travelers shopping, according to SCMP Economy.
After six years of redevelopment, the expanded checkpoint is scheduled to open on October 12. The port will use a joint inspection model for immigration clearance, which is expected to cut clearance time from about 30 minutes to five minutes.
Authorities also said the port can handle 100,000 passenger trips per day initially, with capacity potentially rising to 300,000 in the future. SCMP Economy notes that Bosen Dental has already opened a new branch across from the new facility in August, with other branches near border crossings including Futian and Liantang, plus one near Shenzhen North railway station.
