Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan sign MOU with UAE on trans-Afghan rail

The memorandum covers “practical development” work intended to help Central Asian exports reach Pakistan seaports via the rail corridor.

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Arab Emirates tied to practical development of a trans-Afghan railway, OilPrice reports.

The transport officials from the two Central Asian states say the rail link would enable Central Asian exports to gain access to seaports in Pakistan, according to a Kazakh government statement cited by the outlet.

OilPrice says the MOU is part of an apparent effort to find financing for the railway, which would run through Afghanistan as a trade corridor.

The Kazakhstan government statement frames the agreement as covering the “practical development” of the railway project.
