Mexican peso falls as US data lifts dollar while Banxico flags higher inflation
USD/MXN was quoted around 18.14, after dipping to 17.95, even as Mexico’s September headline inflation rose to 3.45% year over year.
The Mexican peso weakened about 0.9% versus the US dollar on Thursday, with USD/MXN trading near 18.14 after a low of 17.95, as FXStreet attributed the move to supportive US data and shifting market risk sentiment.
FXStreet also pointed to guidance from Bank of Mexico (Banxico) minutes, which suggested inflation is edging higher, a pattern it said was echoed by Mexico’s September inflation print.
Mexico’s headline inflation increased from 3.26% to 3.45% year over year in September, while the report said core figures for the period declined, contributing to the currency’s pressure.
The US Dollar Index (DXY) was down 0.07% at 102.17, FXStreet reported, while the dollar underperformed against most G7 currencies except the peso.
