Satoshi-era Bitcoin batch worth about $8.3 million moves after 16 years

The transaction, confirmed at 18:52 UTC in block 970,379, split 100.02 BTC into 10 BTC and 90.02 BTC sent to two new bc1q addresses.

Decrypt reports that a batch of 100.02 BTC mined in July 2010, often associated with the Satoshi-era, moved for the first time in about 16 years on Wednesday.

The coins were valued at roughly $8.3 million when they were sent, at about $83,000 per coin. Decrypt also noted that the transaction confirmed at 18:52 UTC in block 970,379, and that the fee paid was 1,467 satoshis, about $1.22.

According to Decrypt, the transfer split the stash between two new addresses, sending 10 BTC to one address and 90.02 BTC to another. Both destination addresses were bc1q format, which did not exist when the coins were mined.

Decrypt added that nothing in the transaction identifies the owner, and that moving coins between addresses is not the same as selling them. It said the two mined batches were paid out within days of each other, including 50.02 BTC in block 70,522 on July 26, 2010, and 50 BTC in block 70,748 on July 28.
