National Comp highlights ergonomics training to cut workplace injuries
The session cited Bureau of Labor Statistics data showing sprains, strains, and tears make up about one-third of workplace injuries.
Risk & Insurance reports that a National Comp 2026 session focused on how employers can reduce workplace sprains, strains, and tears by changing training and technique rather than relying only on costly engineering upgrades.
According to the event coverage, the Bureau of Labor Statistics data cited by organizers show these injuries account for roughly one-third of all workplace injuries, turning the statistic into more than a line item for employers managing workers’ compensation costs.
At a Sept. 29 session in Las Vegas, attendees were told that injury prevention often starts with how workers are trained to use their bodies on the job, and the reporting includes comments from Katie McCabe, an occupational therapist and ergonomics analyst with the Mayo Clinic Health System.
Risk & Insurance also notes McCabe’s point that adults learn differently than they did earlier in life, emphasizing that training information needs to be relevant right now for workers to apply it on the job.
