Poland builds offshore gas terminal as Russian gas cutoffs spur energy ties
The terminal project off Gdańsk is part of Europe’s broader shift toward energy security after Russia cut supplies following its invasion of Ukraine.
Poland is advancing construction on its first offshore gas terminal near Gdańsk, placing the project on the front line of Europe’s effort to strengthen energy security, The Guardian reports.
According to the outlet, Russian gas supply has been shut off since Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine four years ago, pushing Poland to seek alternatives from the global energy market.
The Guardian also says offshore infrastructure work is underway amid tight and volatile global conditions, with a Middle East war contributing to higher oil and gas prices.
The article frames Poland’s approach as a “solidarity” effort that aims to deepen coordination with neighboring countries while increasing supply diversity.
