Pump.fun generates $18.6M in protocol revenue despite memecoin crashes
A Talos study found 81% of sampled memecoins dropped at least 90% from all-time highs, and Talos said recoveries from deep collapses were rare.
Pump.fun, a Solana token launchpad, generated about $18.6 million in protocol revenue over the seven days through Oct. 7, according to DefiLlama data cited by CryptoSlate.
The outlet also highlighted a Talos analysis showing that 81% of a selected group of memecoins had fallen at least 90% from their all-time highs, with deep drawdowns proving difficult to recover from.
CryptoSlate said the pattern reflects a fault line in the memecoin economy, where trading activity can enrich Pump.fun and support PUMP buybacks or reward certain users, without necessarily improving outcomes for holders of other tokens.
Talos examined 150 memecoins for survival analysis and 151 for return comparisons, with each asset required to have pricing available on at least one centralized exchange, a selection that may understate how often memecoin launches fail.
