Royal Navy sailor Teddy Young faces UK spying charges for Russia
The charges allege Young prepared to disclose protected information between November 2024 and May 2025 while having access to sensitive defense and intelligence material.
A Royal Navy sailor, Teddy Young, 24, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London to face charges of spying for Russia, the Metropolitan Police Service said. He is charged with two offences under the UK National Security Act.
The allegations say Young prepared to disclose protected information between November 2024 and May 2025, and during the same period allegedly obtained, copied, recorded, or retained protected information for the benefit of a foreign power. The Crown Prosecution Service said the case involves activity consistent with preparing to pass protected information to a foreign power.
Prosecutors said Young served as a Royal Navy warfare intelligence rating with high level security clearance and intelligence system access, and accessed and retained sensitive UK defence and intelligence material. Young has been in police custody since he was arrested on Tuesday at his home in Clapham, about 80 km north of London.
