Rubio urges Europe to boost defense and manufacturing, citing US power

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on Europe to “awaken from its long slumber” and described the US as flexing its power in a speech delivered in Athens, according to SCMP Economy.

Rubio said Europe could reenergize and tie the moment to Europe’s history, referencing ancient Greece as the cradle of Western democracy.

He pointed to what he said is a generational shift across the continent, including skyrocketing defense spending, a flurry of new partnerships and programs, and expanded manufacturing and production, following historic defense commitments made last year at the Nato summit in The Hague.

The speech was attended by senior Greek officials, SCMP Economy reported.
