Shell and Chevron begin shutting Gulf of Mexico platforms ahead of storm
Shell is evacuating personnel from five offshore platforms, while Chevron is shutting four, as an approaching storm could develop into a hurricane by the end of the week.
Shell and Chevron have started shutting in offshore production in the Gulf of Mexico ahead of an approaching storm that could become a hurricane by the end of the week, according to OilPrice.
Shell said it is evacuating all personnel from five platforms, including Mars, Olympus, Ursa, Vito, and Appomattox, and shutting production activities there.
Chevron is also shutting down activities at four offshore platforms in the Gulf, while leaving unspecified other operations in place as the storm nears.
