Trump pressed Xi to end Japan freeze over Taiwan Strait remarks

The South China Morning Post, according to SCMP Economy, said US President Donald Trump raised Japan related grievances with Chinese President Xi Jinping during last month’s summit.

SCMP Economy reported that Trump urged Xi to end a deep freeze in relations with Japan involving Sanae Takaichi, tied to restrictions China imposed after Takaichi’s November comment that the Japanese military might intervene in a conflict in the Taiwan Strait.

The outlet said Trump’s pressure focused on the restrictions that followed the remarks and on Japan’s grievances stemming from that episode.
