UK and India explore closer reinsurance cooperation
Talks at the UK-India Financial Markets Dialogue in London focused on linking the London Market with Indian insurers and reinsurers as India’s regulatory framework evolves.
UK and Indian governments met in London to discuss deeper cooperation in financial markets, with reinsurance highlighted as a key area for potential closer ties, according to Reinsurance News.
The discussions took place at the fourth UK-India Financial Markets Dialogue on September 29, 2026, hosted by the UK’s HM Treasury alongside India’s Ministry of Finance, with senior officials and financial services regulators also participating.
A central insurance-sector focus was the possibility of greater cooperation between the London Market and Indian insurers and reinsurers, particularly as India’s regulatory framework continues to evolve.
Both governments also discussed their respective insurance and pensions reforms, including the UK’s recent changes to its insurance regulatory framework under its Financial Services Growth and Competitiveness Strategy and India’s ambitions to expand insurance coverage, investment, and market capacity.
