US August wholesale inventories rise 0.5% as sales jump

Wholesale sales increased 1.8%, while the inventories-to-sales ratio slipped to 1.18 months from 1.19.

US wholesale inventories for August rose 0.5%, compared with 0.7% expected, after a prior reading of 1.3%, according to Forexlive.

The same report showed wholesale sales climbed 1.8% versus a 0.8% prior, and the inventories-to-sales ratio moved to 1.18 months from 1.19 months.

Forexlive also noted that the inventories figure can lead to slight adjustments to Q3 GDP trackers, since the wholesale trade report, published monthly by the Census Bureau, is used as an input for GDP forecasts.
