US suspends Microsoft and Adobe from green card programme

US Vice-President J.D. Vance said the green card process requires companies to advertise US jobs, then alleged some firms used non-responses to replace American workers.

The US government is suspending Microsoft, Adobe and several other large IT firms from a green card programme for skilled foreign workers, senior officials said, citing alleged fraud.

According to Reuters, US Vice-President J.D. Vance said the programme depends on companies advertising jobs in the United States before applying to the Department of Labour to show they need foreign staff due to a lack of American workers.

Vance also described alleged conduct where companies advertise roles locally, then use the lack of responses as a basis to bring in foreign workers instead of hiring domestically.

He said the administration’s message to Microsoft was that the company must hire American workers.
