USD/CAD holds near April 2025 highs as Fed tone stays hawkish
The Canadian dollar has been pressured by US-Canada trade tensions, a weak domestic outlook, and a relatively dovish Bank of Canada stance.
FXStreet reports that USD/CAD kept a bullish undertone on Thursday, trading around 1.4265 during the Asian session and staying near the highest level since April 2025.
The outlet links the pressure on the Canadian dollar to heavy US-Canada trade tensions, a sluggish Canadian economy, and a predominantly dovish policy stance from the Bank of Canada.
FXStreet also points to oil prices hovering near a one-month low, saying easing supply concerns have offset geopolitical uncertainties, weakening the commodity-linked Loonie.
Against that backdrop, FXStreet notes the US dollar index was near an 18-month top on expectations the Fed will maintain a supportive rate stance.
