Workers sign deals for €31 million US consulate labor settlement in Milan
Payouts averaged €45,000 each, and prosecutors called it the largest labor-exploitation settlement in Europe.
Foreign workers building the new US consulate compound in Milan signed agreements at a Milan hotel to receive payouts tied to alleged labor abuses linked to an American construction company, according to SCMP Economy.
More than 60 laborers, mostly from India, signed the deals to share in a €31 million settlement agreed last month with Alabama-based Caddell Construction, with payouts averaging €45,000 each.
The signings began Tuesday, and prosecutors said the settlement is the largest labor-exploitation settlement ever in Europe.
