Axel Springer weighs 50 to 100 newsroom redundancies at The Telegraph

The planned editorial cuts are reportedly under review as a consultation could be proposed before Christmas.

Axel Springer, the German media group that took ownership of The Telegraph, is understood to be examining proposals that would make between 50 and 100 journalists redundant, according to the Guardian Business.

The outlet says Axel Springer had previously promised investment in The Telegraph, framing the paper as aiming to become the leading centre-right media outlet for English-speaking audiences.

A source familiar with the plans told the Guardian Business that a forthcoming consultation would likely propose cutting a significant proportion of the editorial staff, potentially before Christmas.

The report characterizes the newsroom staffing plans as a shift from Axel Springer's earlier investment pledge.
