Henry Hub natural gas spot prices averaged $2.93 this summer
The EIA said the June through August average was 6.0% below the same period last year, even with heat-driven electricity demand for air conditioning.
The EIA reported that Henry Hub natural gas spot prices averaged $2.93 per million British thermal units from June through August.
That level was 6.0% lower than the same three-month period last year.
The agency said prices stayed lower despite exceptionally hot weather that boosted electricity demand for air conditioning.
It added that natural gas-fired power plants are often used to help meet higher demand during such periods.
