Thailand SEC sets Oct. 16 effective date for bitcoin and ether ETF rules

Thailand’s initial crypto ETF framework limits funds to bitcoin and ether and requires at least 80% average net exposure to a single asset, with trading restrictions tied to Thailand’s exchange.

Thailand’s securities regulator set an Oct. 16 effective date for its crypto ETF framework, while limiting initial products to bitcoin and ether, according to The Block.

Under the rules, Thailand requires ETF funds to track crypto asset prices and maintain average net exposure of at least 80.0% of net asset value to a single crypto asset over each accounting year.

The framework also requires funds to use SEC-regulated custodians and to trade exclusively on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the outlet reported.

Thailand will require investors to acknowledge crypto ETF risks before trading, and it will bar securities firms from offering margin loans to finance purchases, The Block said.
