Trump deal to buy Russian diesel sparks Ukraine and NATO backlash
Trump said the goal is to lower fuel prices for Americans, while Ukrainian officials reported a deadly Russian attack after the announcement.
The Guardian Business reports that Donald Trump announced an agreement to buy Russian diesel, saying lower fuel prices for Americans are his top priority.
The report says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted furiously, calling the deal “absolutely terrible” and “not fair and not honest,” and arguing that “back room deals” with Vladimir Putin would give Russia more chances on the battlefield.
According to the same account, the decision is likely to create a new crisis with Ukraine and NATO allies after years of US and western pressure on the Kremlin to end its war against Ukraine.
On Saturday morning, the outlet adds that Ukrainian officials said a Russian attack in the south-east killed 12 people, including three children, while Moscow claimed its troops were advancing in the east.
