U.S. crude output hits records, diesel prices rise on low distillate stocks

Despite record U.S. crude production, distillate inventories are unusually low, and the EIA expects they will stay below normal.

OilPrice reports that the United States is producing more crude oil than ever, with EIA data indicating U.S. crude output is on track to average a record 13.8 million barrels per day in 2026, above the prior high set last year.

The outlet says crude production gains are not translating into relief for diesel, as diesel prices have recently climbed to record highs while distillate inventories remain unusually low.

OilPrice also notes that the EIA expects distillate inventories to stay below normal, helping explain why diesel tightness persists even as crude output sets new records.
