Asian memory chip stocks slide as investors question AI profit durability
Samsung and SK Hynix fell 7.4% and 10.1% on Tuesday, while China’s CXMT extended a roughly 14% drop since the National Day holiday.
A sharp sell-off in Asian memory chip stocks is intensifying investor doubts about whether the sector’s AI-driven profit boom can last, even as memory prices are still supporting strong quarterly earnings, according to SCMP Economy.
Shares of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix closed down 7.4% and 10.1% in Seoul on Tuesday, extending multi-session declines of about 16% and 22%, respectively, over the past five trading sessions.
The broader impact is weighing on South Korea’s benchmark Kospi, which closed 5.5% lower after dropping more than 7% intraday, with Samsung and SK Hynix together accounting for about half the index’s weight.
In Shanghai, ChangXin Memory Technologies, China’s leading DRAM maker, fell 2.8% to 46.99 yuan (US$7.01), extending its post-National Day drop to about 14%.
