Australia’s ASIC proposes leverage caps for some crypto-settled CFDs
The proposal would extend retail leverage limits and negative-balance protections to certain CFDs that are settled by transferring digital assets, according to Cointelegraph.
Australia’s securities regulator, ASIC, has proposed expanding leverage rules for certain crypto-settled derivatives. Cointelegraph reports that ASIC’s plan would extend leverage limits and other retail protections against negative balances to some contracts settled in digital assets.
The proposal would target contracts for difference, CFDs, which let traders bet on price movements without owning the underlying asset. ASIC’s rules currently cover CFDs settled in cash or through offsetting obligations between parties, Cointelegraph says.
Under the proposal, ASIC would add CFDs settled by transferring digital assets, including those tracking non-crypto assets. The article notes the update was published after ASIC proposed the change, with the story dated Oct. 12, 2026.
