Brits plan fewer ring-fenced holiday abroad budgets, Abta warns
Spain stayed the top destination for British travelers, with the share visiting up four points to 36% this year, according to an Abta report.
The UK travel industry says fewer Britons are planning to set aside money for holidays abroad next year as the cost of living squeeze bites, even as travel volumes have recovered.
According to an Abta annual travel industry report, the number of British holidaymakers saying they visited Spain rose by four percentage points to 36% this year, despite factors including war, wildfires, and EES border checks.
The report said numbers taking holidays at home and abroad continued to rise and have climbed back to pre-pandemic levels this year, but rising costs may mean the trend has peaked.
It also found late bookings and shorter city breaks are increasingly common through 2026, while confidence in travel fell slightly year over year before rebounding.
