Bumble in advanced takeover talks valued around $1bn
Shares surged nearly 50% on Monday, pushing Bumble’s market value above $580m.
Shares in dating app Bumble jumped by almost 50% on Monday after reports that the company is in advanced takeover talks, with the business valued at about $1bn (757m pounds), according to BBC Business.
The outlet said Ithaca Holdings, a technology investment firm, could announce a deal to buy the Texas-based company as early as this week, citing the Wall Street Journal.
The report noted Bumble’s valuation of more than $580m remains far below a peak of more than $14bn it reached after listing on the Nasdaq in 2021.
BBC Business added that Bumble has faced slower growth in a crowded dating app market, and that the company recently dropped its “women-first” chat rule, a change that prompted user debate; the BBC said it contacted Bumble and Ithaca for comment.
