Trump eases sanctions to boost Russian diesel supply to global markets
The U.S. will allow Russia to ship more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately, with additional volumes of 500,000 tonnes in November and 1 million tonnes soon after.
Analysts cited by SCMP Economy said US President Donald Trump’s decision to ease sanctions on Russian diesel exports could give India more leverage in its own dispute with Washington over discounted crude purchases.
SCMP Economy reported that Trump announced a plan under which Russia would supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately to the US and global markets, followed by another 500,000 tonnes in November and 1 million tonnes “immediately thereafter,” with a further 3 million tonnes expected within a short period, subject to Russian refineries.
The outlet also said the US Treasury issued a temporary licence easing sanctions on Russian diesel shipments, a move analysts suggested could create wider diplomatic opportunities for New Delhi.
