Cyber insurance premiums fall while coverage terms tighten
Marsh data showed US cyber rates down 2% in Q2 2026, even as third parties were involved in 48% of analyzed breaches in Verizon’s 2026 report.
Cyber insurance buyers are seeing lower premiums and ample capacity, but insurers are increasingly tightening policy terms tied to third-party technology dependencies, Insurance Business reports.
Marsh’s Global Insurance Market Index said US cyber insurance rates declined by 2% in the second quarter of 2026, the same rate drop as the prior quarter. The index also said global cyber premiums fell 4%, the twelfth straight quarter of reductions.
Insurance Business pointed to growing interconnected cyber exposures, including findings from Verizon’s 2026 Data Breach Investigations Report, which found third parties involved in 48% of analyzed breaches, up from the prior year’s dataset.
Marsh also flagged third-party software and vendor risks among insurers’ top concerns. Insurance Business said some insurers have introduced broad widespread-event exclusions and restricted dependent business interruption coverage, citing Megan North of Amwins.
