Great American sues Sentinel over cost-sharing in spa injury case

The dispute stems from a Palm Beach Gardens pedicure-related injury claim filed in May 2025, with both insurers on the risk during the alleged loss period.

Great American Alliance Insurance Company has filed a complaint against Sentinel Insurance Company, also known as The Hartford Insurance Group, alleging Sentinel repeatedly refused to share the cost of defending and settling an injury claim involving a mutual insured spa, according to Insurance Business.

The underlying lawsuit involves a customer injury alleged to have occurred during a pedicure at Dragon Foot in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, with the business sued in Palm Beach County Circuit Court in May 2025.

Insurance Business reports that Great American issued Dragon Foot a policy that included commercial general liability and professional liability coverage from May 2024 to May 2025, while Sentinel issued a business owners policy covering July 2024 to July 2025, both in effect on the alleged date of loss.

Great American alleges it accepted the defense under a reservation of rights, and the complaint says Sentinel refused to share defense and settlement costs, the outlet notes.
