MTR services halted after trackside fire during Hong Kong evening rush
Train service between Kwun Tong and Tiu Keng Leng gradually resumed at about 6:40pm after the fire was extinguished, the operator said.
A fire near an MTR track disrupted train services between Kwun Tong and Tiu Keng Leng in Hong Kong during the Tuesday evening rush hour, leaving commuters stranded on packed platforms and concourses.
MTR Corporation said service on the Kwun Tong line resumed gradually at about 6:40pm after the fire was extinguished, after it was reported along the Whampoa-bound line at Lam Tin station.
The fire led to suspension of services at four stations, Kwun Tong, Lam Tin, Yau Tong and Tiu Keng Leng, as crowds began to swell from about 6pm.
Passengers reported severe congestion, including long queues to exit stations, and shared photos of crowded concourses and platform bottlenecks on social media.
