Nearly 180 lift entrapments reported after voltage dip in Hong Kong

Fire Services Department said the incidents occurred between 1:10pm and 3:00pm and affected buildings, hospitals, shopping centres, MTR stations and school campuses.

Authorities in Hong Kong received nearly 180 reports of people being trapped in lifts after a brief voltage dip in CLP Power’s network tripped building safety mechanisms across multiple districts on Tuesday, according to SCMP Economy.

The Fire Services Department said it received 179 lift entrapment reports and 40 fire alarms between 1:10pm and 3:00pm, with incidents reported in parts of Kowloon and the New Territories.

Affected sites included residential and commercial buildings, hospitals, shopping centres, MTR stations, and school campuses.

SCMP Economy reported that three elderly women were hospitalised after feeling unwell, and four women aged 68 to 71 had reported feeling unwell at the time, at a press briefing.
