China Mobile triples capacity at Hohhot AI computing hub
The completed data centre expansion raises total processing capacity to 20,100 petaflops, with 16,700 petaflops dedicated to AI and smart computing tasks.
China Mobile has tripled the capacity of its largest intelligent computing hub in northern Inner Mongolia, completing an expansion of its data centre in Hohhot, according to SCMP Economy citing a report from Inner Mongolia Daily.
The upgrade increases the hub’s total processing capacity to 20,100 petaflops, up from 6,700 petaflops previously, with the data centre allocating 16,700 petaflops to artificial intelligence and smart computing tasks.
SCMP Economy notes that a petaflop is a computer speed measure equal to a quadrillion operations per second, and that the article links the expansion to Beijing’s push to boost digital infrastructure for AI ambitions.
