Shell criticizes Australia plan to mandate LNG supplies for home use

Shell Australia chairwoman Cecile Wake called the policy an “extraordinarily heavy-handed intervention” and said it would target an energy market she views as already working well.

OilPrice reports Shell has criticized an Australian government proposal that would require LNG producers to reserve specific volumes for domestic gas supply.

In remarks relayed by the outlet, Shell Australia chairwoman Cecile Wake said the plan is overly forceful, describing it as a “sledgehammer to crack a nut.”

Wake also argued that the intervention would be an unusually heavy-handed move into a market she characterized as functioning well, according to OilPrice.
