Stellantis and Renault urge UK to limit Chinese car imports
The automakers said the UK should be treated as one of the EU’s 27 member states under proposed “Made in Europe” rules, and they linked that stance to protections for EU carmakers.
Stellantis and Renault backed a UK request to be included in proposed rules intended to protect the EU car industry, according to the Guardian Business. The automakers also urged the British government to consider limiting imports of Chinese cars.
Stellantis executive Emanuele Cappellano, who leads Stellantis’s European brands including Fiat, Citroën, Opel and Vauxhall, and Renault CEO François Provost said the UK should effectively be counted as one of the EU’s 27 member states for the purposes of the proposed “Made in Europe” legislation.
The proposed “Made in Europe” rules are designed to ensure EU subsidies and government support are directed in a way that strengthens the EU industry, the Guardian Business said.
