Suspect’s friend says he warned teen not to hack FBI
A friend of a suspected thief of a large cache of personal data from the FBI says he repeatedly urged the teen not to carry out the hack, telling Reuters that he warned him it was “suicidal.”
The friend, Adem El Adeb, said he tried to convince Saif al-Din Khader last month that breaking into the FBI would bring the weight of the US government down on him, but Khader would not be swayed.
The FBI is investigating the ShinyHunters hacking incident, and according to a person briefed on the matter, the bureau is operating under the assumption that the stolen data pertains to all its employees.
El Adeb said Khader, whom he described as 17, was taken into custody in Jordan on September 29 and is cooperating with the investigation, and the FBI has not returned a comment request on the account.
