Women hold 12% of top mining roles in Australia, report finds
The Gender Equity Insights 2026 report says women were 23% of Australia’s mining workforce in addition to holding 24% of mining management roles in 2024-25.
Research highlighted a leadership gap in Australia’s mining industry, finding that women held just 12% of chief executive and head-of-business roles despite making up 23% of the workforce, Mining.com reported.
Mining.com said the Gender Equity Insights 2026: Unlocking Australia’s Workforce Potential report, produced by the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre and the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, found women accounted for 24% of mining management positions and 25% of senior management roles in 2024-25.
The outlet also cited the report’s view that promotion rates can show who advances into leadership, while the drop in representation at executive levels points to challenges around succession planning and keeping talent moving through leadership tiers.
