Indonesia takes first Russian crude shipment under April supply deal
About 770,000 barrels arrived at the port of Balikpapan end of June, adding to Indonesia’s diversification away from Middle East imports.
Indonesia has received its first cargo of Russian crude oil under a regular supply deal agreed in April, according to Big Trade Data customs figures cited by Bloomberg.
About 770,000 barrels of Russian crude were delivered to the port of Balikpapan at the end of June, the first shipment since the two countries struck the agreement during heightened tensions in the Hormuz region.
Indonesia produces roughly 600,000 barrels per day of crude but consumes about 1.6 million barrels daily, leaving it reliant on imports that have often come from the Middle East.
The deal comes as disruptions from the Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz have pushed Indonesia to diversify its crude import sources, with officials previously indicating the country would import 150 million barrels of Russian crude this year.
